Welcome Message from Mayor Derek Armstead
On behalf of the City of Linden, it is my great pleasure to Welcome the World to the City of Linden, N.J., where my family has resided for over 100 years. We have seen big events before, but 2026 has provided the City with a Once In A Lifetime opportunity to host the world for the world’s biggest event!
Our city has always been defined by its energy, diversity, and the strong sense of community that brings our residents together. As fans from across the globe gather to celebrate the beautiful game and the excitement of the world’s premier soccer tournament, Linden is proud to join in that spirit of unity and celebration. Soccer unites the world, and the world is converging in the City of Linden.
I wanted to convene a Committee to organize a series of community watch parties and events that will allow residents, families, and visitors alike to come together and share in the passion of the global game. Not only did we convene this Committee, but we have organized a WORLD CLASS series of events to Welcome the World. These gatherings are about more than the matches themselves. They are an opportunity to celebrate the cultures that make our city so vibrant, to strengthen connections within our community, and to showcase Linden as a welcoming place for all.
I welcome and encourage everyone to take part in the events we have planned throughout the summer, support the Committee’s efforts, and proudly represent our city. Together, we will create memorable moments that reflect the pride and hospitality that define Linden.

The Linden Welcomes the World Committee was formed to bring our city together in celebration of the global game and the international spirit it inspires. As millions of fans across the world gather to watch the world’s largest soccer tournament, Linden will proudly showcase the diversity, energy, and community pride that define our city, while hosting guests from all over the city, county, state, region, and world!
Our mission is simple: We are creating opportunities for residents, families, and visitors to come together through sport, culture, and shared experiences. Throughout the 6 week period of the tournament this summer, the Committee will host a series of public viewing events, and neighborhood celebrations designed to unite fans from every background. These events will highlight the passion for the beautiful game while celebrating the many cultures that make Linden such a vibrant place to live, work, and visit.
Beyond the matches themselves, our efforts are about building community. By organizing inclusive, family-friendly events across the city, we aim to create memorable moments, strengthen local connections, and showcase Linden’s welcoming spirit to the world.
